PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education could go in for a web based helpline to answer queries as well as an active helpline during exams as well as answer other queries including vacancies during admission, officials said. Initially, this helpline could be manned by teachers. The CBSE Board already has a helpline and the Goa Board is actively considering one on the same pattern.
Board officials say that they have only one system analyst as of date and are thinking of recruiting another 2-3 by June-July.
Initially the board would wants to answer written queries and later on it would think of shifting to a active helpline, manned by teachers, especially during exams and then maybe during admissions and results.
The Board – with at least 14,000 students answering X standard examination and sometimes even uptil 16,000 students is a small board compared to say the CBSE board or boards of other states so they would be going about this in a phased manner, officials say.
The proposal for recruitment of new people has been okayed by the present board that is due to be reconstituted by June, but the work of putting things up online is going on, but in a phased manner.
This year the teacher’s data base has been put up and next year the student’s data base would be put up, officials said.
They also say that scanning of records of students from 1975 till 1996 has already been done and as of now scanned copies of mark sheets can be obtained by students of batches till ’96.
This is going on in phases, officials said and depending on funds – as this is an autonomous body- further recruitment and projects that are in the pipeline would be carried forward.
Today due to the Right of Child to Free and Compulsory Education Act states have to implement the no-fail policy from I to VIII. So a proposal so that students can call up to where institutions have seats yet to be filled could also be up so students to know where seats are available.
