Goa Board smells a rat in re-test for students

Board Secretary warns of action against errant schools; to conduct random inspections

PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has come across malpractices by some of the schools in form of conducting re-tests for the students, giving them undue advantage in the internal assessment.

Board Secretary Geraldina Mendes in a circular issued on Wednesday, to the heads of the secondary and higher secondary institutes, has warned to take action against errant schools for such malpractices. The Board will conduct random inspections to find out irregularities of such kind.

“It has been brought to the notice of this Board that some schools conduct re-test of Formative Test-I to all students irrespective of performance of students in the test. This results in undue advantage to the students. This act of the concerned invites malpractice Act,” the Board said.

The Board said that re-test should be given to those students, whose performance is below seven marks out of 20 marks and after re-test, if their performance is more than seven marks it should be recorded as seven only for further assessment.
