MARGAO: Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo has said that Goa can emerge as a vibrant centre of musical and artistic excellence if all the stakeholders work together with co-operation and vision to promote music.
“Goa is well known for its cultural and musical background. Great musicians have taken birth on its sacred soil. In Goa, there is an increasing interest and competitive spirit in promoting and patronizing music, which is a clear indication that the people know the talent value of music and its vital role in our lives. Devotional music has a special role to play in our social setting,” he said, while speaking after inaugurating the Bhakti Swar Rang 2013 organised by Bhangrale Goem, Asmitay in collaboration with the Department of Art and Culture at the Ravindra Bhavan here on Sunday.
He said that Goa has produced a galaxy of great sons and daughters who have excelled in the field of art, music, drama, tiatr etc, which have risen to eminence and brought laurels to their beloved land.
“The peaceful social and cultural setting of our state makes it an ever green popular tourist destination. Credit goes to the people of Goa for having zealously preserved their cultural traditions,” he said.
The governor reminded the gathering that material wealth is no substitute to cultural and artistic values. “If we have survived the onslaughts of cultural and political imperialism in our national history, it is not due to economic power, but because of our age-old healthy cultural moorings at the grass-root level, which has kept us united and progressive”, he said.
Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Damu Naik, Pundalik Nayak, Premanand Chari also spoke on the occasion.
