PONDA: Villagers from Adulshem and Tamshirem in Borim Panchayat have raised strong objection to the installation of mobile tower at Gadder-Adulshem.
Citing health-related issues, a letter signed by about 140 people objecting installation of mobile tower has been submitted to the BDO.
The residents claimed that they have been given to understand that mobile tower if in the vicinity of settlement areas will have an adverse effect on the health, and as such they do not want the mobile tower.
According to villagers, the objection pertaining to the mobile tower has also been communicated to the Borim Panchayat and the sarpanch has asked for seven days time to decide on the issue.
According to information, the panchayat during its recent meeting decided to issue NOC to install Coverage on Wheels (COW)-mobile tower at Gadde-Adulshem, however no NOC was issued.
Residents claimed that even after their objections, the work was undertaken to install the mobile tower.
Since hundreds of villagers are against the mobile tower, villagers fear that the property owner who has rented the land to install the mobile tower or the contractor might assault them, as such on security grounds they (villagers) have now written to Ponda Police requesting to look into the matter.
