PONDA: The Goa Dairy, which had suffered a loss of over Rs 5 crore in the past, is on the road to making profit, says its Administrator Damodar Morajkar.
Morajkar was appointed as the administrator of Goa Dairy by the Registrar of Co-operative Societies, after dismissing the Dairy’s board of directors in September.
Morajkar said that since taking charge in September, he took measures to control cost and waste at the production stage. He said that Goa Dairy has stopped importing around 15,000-20,000 litres of buffalo milk from outside the State, since September 22. Instead, the Dairy separately collects cow and buffalo milk from Goan farmers.
Besides, he said, earlier there was wastage of at least 1500 to 2000 litres of milk at processing and packaging stage; this has been fully controlled. “All these measures have helped Goa Dairy to earn a profit of Rs 1 lakh per day,” Morajkar said.
It may be recalled that following complaints of scams in Goa Dairy by milk supplying farmers, the Registrar of Co-operative Societies, after conducting an investigation, had disqualified the then Board of Directors and also suspended the then managing director. The formers had complained that the scams caused Rs 5 crore loss to the Dairy.
Four of the disqualified directors had challenged their disqualification before the Supreme Court, which dismissed the same, recently.
