PANJIM: Goa Power Minister Nilesh Cabral and its Delhi counterpart agreed to Satyendar Jain agreed to have a debate next Monday, July 26 on the ‘free electricity for 300 units and 24/7 uninterrupted power supply ’ promise of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in his recent visit to Goa.
Kejriwal tweeted saying, “such debates are healthy in a democracy.”

Initially, AAP national spokesperson and Delhi MLA Raghav Chadha agreed to defend Delhi. But Cabral declines the offer and insisted to sit only against his counterpart. Delhi Power Minister on Tuesday took to twitter and said, “Nileshbab, I heard you have said that you would like to debate with the Power Minister of Delhi on AAP’s free and 24×7 electricity announcements. I accept your challenge. I will be in Goa this Sunday. I hope Sunday 3 pm is ok with you for the debate. See you there.”
Cabral then issued a statement to the media saying, “I accept the challenge thrown by Power Minister of Delhi Satyendra Jain for Monday, 3 pm, at any place where they schedule. Or, as he is my guest in Goa, I will make the necessary arrangements as made last time for having this debate in Goa. I will be there to debate with him on his model of electricity in Goa, which he promises the people to give and what the current scenario in Delhi is and how they function on these lines. Ultimately, AAP’s Energy Minister feels that he should debate on. It’s a good sign. Let us have a good debate in the interest of the people of the State of Goa.” Jain agreed to this and said that he would be there.
“The topic for Sunday’s debate is: Whether public money should be used to purchase MLAs or to provide free electricity? What do Goans want?” Chadha tweeted.
AAP Goa issued a statement on Tuesday evening saying, “Cabral’s first challenge was accepted by Chadha but Cabral went missing when Chadha came for the debate, only showing up after Chadha had left for Delhi. This time as well after issuing a challenge, Cabral hid from Chadha behind matters of protocol and demanded to meet the Delhi power minister. With AAP’s power minister’s acceptance of Cabral’s challenges he has no more excuses to hide behind and has to come on TV to defend his failed policies.”
