The Bombay High Court at Goa on Monday impleaded the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) highlighting alleged systemic failures in protecting Olive Ridley turtle nesting sites in the state.
The PIL was filed by Aaron Victor E Fernandes of the Chameleon Wildlife Organisation, who has raised concerns over lapses by Goa authorities in safeguarding the nesting habitats of the endangered Olive Ridley turtle.

The petition alleges that despite existing conservation measures, authorities have failed to effectively protect nesting sites, leading to threats to the species’ survival along Goa’s coastline.
By impleading the Union ministry, the court has brought the central authority into the proceedings to examine the concerns raised and ensure accountability in the implementation of environmental protection measures.
Further hearings in the matter are expected as the court reviews the steps taken by both state and central authorities to address the issue.
