Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was among the first to cast his vote for President of India elections on Monday
Speaking to reporters, Sawant said that he has requested all the MLAs to vote for NDA Presidential Candidate Draupadi Murmu. “I am confident that we will get maximum votes,” he said.
BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade said, “Both our MPs will vote from Delhi. We have 25 MLAs in the ruling & we will definitely get more than 25 votes.”
Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira said that he voted as per his conscience. When asked about the five Goa Congress MLAs who were flown to Chennai on Saturday, he said he did not know anything about it, as he was away celebrating his wife’s birthday.
BJP MLA Dr Deviya Rane, after voting, said that it was an honour to vote for Droupadi Murmu. “We had interaction with her recently. It is an honour to vote for her,” she said.
All the opposition parties including Congress, Revolutionary Goans, Goa Forward Party and AAP which makes for 15 MLAs and a Member of Parliament will be voting for Yashwant Sinha, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar told reporters.
St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar said that the RGP is in the opposition & they will be supporting the opposition candidate. He further went on to say that Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had not told him anything in regards to supporting the NDA Presidential candidate.
