NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition by a former chief mechanic of Navy undergoing life imprisonment in the Aguada Central Jail for strangulating his mistress to death with a towel in 2007 in his flat at Chicalim.
AK Jayakumar, 43, who was to marry Rajlaxmi, stayed with her at Hotel Vasco at Vasco from December 1-4, 2007, took her to his flat in the afternoon of December 4, sending his wife and child to a friend’s house on the day of the murder. The box in which he wanted to dispose of the body was recovered at his instance.
Citing the extra-judicial confession made by him to two Naval officers about the murder and other evidences, the Additional Sessions Judge, Margao, had awarded him life sentence and fine of Rs 25,000 in September 2009 and the same was also upheld by the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court in February 2012.
Condoning the delay in filing the appeal after seven years, the Bench of Justices Uday Umesh Lalit and Ms Indu Malhotra heard his lawyers ex-parte and dismissed the appeal, saying they find no reason to interfere in the matter.
