PANJIM: The International Film Festiva (IFFI) has found a permanent home at last. After 11 years of dilly dallying , the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government, declaring that Goa is the permanent venue for the festival.
It was in 2004 that the film festival was shifted to Goa from its New Delhi venue.
“The MoU signed between the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the Government of Goa is about according permanent status to Goa as a permanent venue,” Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar told media after the meeting at which the MoU was signed.
Javadekar also announced the festival this year would be held between November 20 to 30.
“With Goa’s unique culture and hospitable atmosphere, it will soon become an internationally famous venue like Cannes,” Javadekar claimed. “This is a young venue but it will achieve the desired result very soon.”
The Union minister said that the movie selection process for IFFI was on and this time the steering committee that met Wednesday had a lot of experts from the film fraternity.
