Renewing its long-standing demand, the Non-Governmental Organisation, Goa Needs Minority Commission has once again urged the state government to establish a Minority Commission to safeguard the interests and rights of minority commu nities in Goa. The NGO argued that the absence of such a body has left minority groups vulnerable and without a proper forum to raise con cerns related to discrimi nation, injustice, or neglect by authorities. The members reminded that the proposal to create a Minority Commission in Goa had received in-princi ple approval from the then BJP government under Chief Minister late Mano har Parrikar back in 2012. However, they ques tioned why the matter has remained unresolved for more than a decade despite repeated assurances. Speaking to reporters, members of the organi sation expressed disap pointment that successive governments have failed to take the proposal for ward. They stressed that the current situation calls for stronger institutional mechanisms to ensure that every community in Goa feels equally protected un der the law. Referring to recent inci dents, the NGO highlight ed the case of a minor boy belonging to a minority communtiy who was al legedly coached to make statements praising Paki stan. Members said that even though it was evident the child had been manip ulated; the Margao police had not taken sufficient ac tion against the person in volved or those responsible for circulating the video. This, they argued, is a clear reflection of administrative indifference toward issues affecting minorities.
