Goa plunges into darkness again

PANJIM: All of Goa was plunged into darkness late Saturday evening due to the collapse of the 110kv line at Tivim as a result of the unseasonal rains.Electricity Department officials said that many parts of Goa, including the capital city and major towns, were affected. The areas affected were Calangute, Saligao, Panjim, Porvorim and some other parts of Goa. Though Electricity Department claimed that power was restored within minutes, various areas remained without power for hours. Speaking to Herald, Electricity Department, officials said, “The major power failure occurred as a result of the 110kv line at Tivim had tripped causing the entire coastal belt along with other parts of Goa plunge into darkness. Yesterday the lines coming from Maharashtra to the state had tripped off causing the entire State to plunge into darkness.”
