Goa police today held police commemoration day parade at the police ground, observed annually in the country in memory of the police personnel and paramilitary personnel killed in action.
“A total of 796 police personnel laid down their lives while on duty during the past one-year between September 1, 2009 and August 30, 2010,” Director General of Police Bhim Sain Bassi said during his speech.
CRPF tops the list with 191 police personnel laid down their lives on the call of duty followed by 94 police personnel from Uttar Pradesh police. The DGP read out names of all these police personnel.
The officers including Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravindra Yadav, SSP V V Choudhary, SPs Atmaram Deshpande, Vishram Borkar, Arvind Gawas, Allan D’Sa, Shekahar Prabhudessai, D K Sawant, Mangaldas Dessai, Tony Fernandes, Melwin Fernandes placed wreaths on the police memorial.
