PANJIM: Reacting to the recommendations to have Board exams twice a year, made in the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF), Goa Board Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) Chairman Bhagirath Shetye said that the Board will consider the same, even as it is currently conducting one annual examination for Class XII in March and for Class X in April.
According to NCF document, board examinations will be conducted twice a year and students will get an option to retain their best score.

Aiming to make the exams “easier” rather than “high stakes”, the boards have also been asked to develop capacities to be able to conduct “on-demand” examinations in due course of time.
The NCF has also noted that there should be no hard separations between Arts and Sciences, curricular and extra-curricular activities, and vocational and academic streams.
He said that the terminal exam system implemented during Covid-19 pandemic has been discontinued from this academic year due to stress the students were undergoing and now there will be only one examination from March 2024.
According to Shetye, the Goa Board is providing an opportunity to those students who desire to improve their marks and unsuccessful students to answer supplementary exams conducted after one-month of declaration of annual exams i.e. in June-July and the results are also declared within next two to three weeks so that these students can produce it to admission authorities. Also the Board is allowing students to answer supplementary exams only on medical grounds.
As far as the NCF recommendations are concerned, then there is a possibility that whoever wants to appear in supplementary exams may be because of medical ground or if students are not prepared due to certain reasons, they will be given an opportunity to answer supplementary exams held in June-July.
Meanwhile, Board exams twice a year, mandatory studying of Indian languages and increased number of minimum subjects for classes 9-12 are among the recommendations made in the new NCF.
The NCF has been prepared according to the new National Education Policy (NEP) by the national steering committee headed by former ISRO chief K Kasturirangan.
