The Goa AI and Deep-Tech Policy will be notified within the next 100 days, the Goa Legislative Assem bly was informed on Friday. The announcement came during a discussion on a Private Member’s Resolution moved by Aleixo Reginal do Lourenco, MLA from Curtorim. During the discussion, it was ex plained that the world is transition ing from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0, where technology works in collabora tion with humans rather than replac ing them. As part of the initiative to make Ar tificial Intelligence more accessible, the government is partnering with Bhashini to develop a Konkani Large Language Model (LLM). This initiative will enable AI systems to understand and communicate in Konkani, allow ing citizens to access government ser vices in their local language. The Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Commu nications (DITE&C) is also working on the AI Kosh initiative, aimed at responsibly making government data assets available for AI research and innovation.
Additionally, the department is developing an AI Read iness Index to assess how prepared various government departments are to adopt and benefit from Artificial Intel ligence. Looking ahead, the government also plans to establish an AI Centre of Excellence in Goa. Artificial Intelligence applications are being planned across sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, tourism and public service de livery. Initiatives such as the Chips-to-Startup (C2S) Programme are helping build semiconductor design capabilities among students, while 5G Use Case Labs at BITS Pilani Goa Cam pus and National Institute of Technology Goa are enabling students and researchers to test next-generation applica tions. The upcoming Goa AI Policy will bring together these initiatives and guide the State’s development in Artificial Intelligence across education, governance, industry and research. It is also expected to create skilled job opportu nities for Goan youth while positioning the State as a hub for AI and deep-technology in the country, the House was informed. Following the discussion and the minister’s response, Lourenco withdrew the private member’s resolution in the Assembly
