PANJIM: Following protest by Congress affiliated students union, the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday announced that no examination under the purview of Goa University will be held in physical mode in view of present COVID situation.

The Goa University earlier this month had announced that the Semester End Assessment (SEA) of final year post graduate programme will be held in physical mode.

The National Students Union of India (NSUI) Goa unit had protested against the conduct of offline examination. The NSUI delegation along with other post graduate students had on Monday gheored the University Registrar, during which they were detained by the police.

The chief minister said that in view of request received from various student organisations and considering the present COVID-19 pandemic situation in the State, he discussed the matter regarding the examination with all the concerned officials and Goa University.

“It has been decided that no examinations under the purview of Goa University shall be held in physical mode in order to ensure the safety of the students,” he said.

In a Special Ordinance issued on June 17, the University had said all arrangements for examinations in physical format shall be made by maintaining social distancing, use of facial masks, sanitizers, sanitization of classrooms and all other necessary precautions to be taken as per COVID-19 norms.
