PANJIM: Goa will soon join other states in offering app-based taxi services as Goa Tourism Development Corporation is set to launch the initiative in July.
Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar said that 2,800 licenced taxi drivers will be joining this service of booking taxi using app – named “Goamiles.”
“Currently the app is in the final stages of testing in actual conditions. 2,800 licenced taxi drivers in Goa have already expressed interest in using the app and the number is expected to grow further as passenger demands swell. The project is expected to bring relief to tourists looking for convenient modes of transportation,” he said.
“The launch of the app-based taxi service in Goa is going to bring a revolutionary change in the transportation system. I am confident that tourist taxi drivers across Goa will join the digital system,” he added.
GTDC chairman Nilesh Cabral said the corporation is launching a public information campaign to create awareness about the app. “We are anticipating a huge response. This app-based taxi service aims to boost the digital economy, enable ease of travel for tourists and give taxi drivers better income. This initiative offers not only a brand new customer experience, but also makes taxi fare payment easy and secure,” he said.
Cabral explained that the app would be one of the quickest and most convenient of systems being implemented without pinching the pockets of Goan taxi drivers. He said that the taxi operators are also made partners in the digital system.
