PANJIM: The seizure of the ketamine right under the nose and opposite to their office in Pissurlem Industrial Estate has become a wake-up call for Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) which has now issued notices to sheds in all 23 estates that are closed.
GIDC chairman Glen Ticlo directed all field managers to inspect all sheds which are closed and initiate the process to take possession of them.
“The head office has issued notices to all the sheds, which have remained closed for many years informing them that inspections will be undertaken during the next seven days to ascertain whether any illegalities are taking place,” Ticlo told Herald.
He said there are several sheds identified by GIDC, which have been lying vacant for years. “We will be taking possession of such sheds now,” Ticlo stated.
The chairman further said that the flying squad under the general manager engineering is currently undertaking a survey to identify unutilised plots vacant for several years. “We will initiate the process to take possession of such plots for further allotment in a phased manner,” he said.
As a part of a pan India investigation, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had raided Vijay Industry in Pissurlem industrial estate and had seized 100kgs of ketamine.
GIDC has issued a notice to Vasudev Parab, the owner of the unit, for the alleged illegalities including subletting the plot without consent of the Corporation.
“The incident that happened at Pissurlem is a sort of lesson for us. We have to tighten the screw,” Ticlo said. Herald on Tuesday had exposed how ketamine was produced in Pissurlem right in front of the IDC office.
