PANJIM: “People in Goa are giving their verdict in favour of Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister, which is very much evident from the huge response the party is receiving during its poll campaign,” BJP leader Pramod Sawant said on Thursday, claiming that the issue of communalism will not have any impact on the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled April 12.
Though Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has tried to stress that minorities have no apprehension about Modi, the saffron party has laid more thrust on countering issue of communalism, especially in South, for the third phase of its election campaign that will start Friday.
“In the third phase of the election campaign more focus would be laid on dealing with the false propaganda being made by the political opponents on communalism,” Sawant told media persons adding ‘the issue of communalism will not have any impact on the election but we want to clear all the doubts being raised of BJP being a communal political front’.
“There are certain sections, which are involved in making false propaganda…communalism has always been an election issue for Opposition,” he said.
Sawant said that BJP which has projected Modi as the party face is accepted by people in Goa and it is evident through the response we are getting while campaigning.
BJP election committee headed by Parrikar that met Thursday morning took review of election campaign in both the district. Party has already completed two phases of its campaign, wherein the booth and constituencies level committees were made active. In the third phase, beginning Friday, constituency wise public meetings would be held.
Sawant said that during the review meeting, considering the feedback from the workers, the committee is confident of winning both the seats with total votes of over 4.5 to 5 lakh.
“However, in few constituencies in Salcete we need to work hard,” he said.
