Determination can make even the sky seem within reach — and Goa’s youngest pilot, Capt. Vashon Jovio Goes, has proved it. At just 19, this young aviator from Quepem has accomplished what many aspire to for years, earning his pilot’s wings and inspiring countless Goan youth along the way.
Born into a humble, middle-class family — his mother a teacher and his father a chef — Vashon’s story is one of grit, discipline, and unyielding ambition. His fascination with flying began in childhood. Each time an aircraft soared overhead, he would gaze up, imagining what it felt like to be inside the cockpit. That spark soon became a steadfast dream.

Vashon’s educational journey began at Chubby Cheeks Pre-Primary School, followed by St. Joseph’s Primary School, Pope John XXIII High School, and Loyola’s Higher Secondary School, Quepem. After completing his higher secondary education, he took a bold step — heading to the United States to pursue aviation studies.
Reflecting on his journey, Capt. Vashon credits his family’s constant encouragement. “I succeeded because of my family’s support,” he said. “Even though I was studying abroad, my parents called me every day. Their emotional strength helped me stay focused and complete my training.”
His father, Jeff Savio Goes, beamed with pride as he recalled the early days of his son’s dream. “When Vashon told us he wanted to become a pilot after his 12th, we didn’t know much about aviation. But we believed in him and decided to support him completely,” he said. “He promised to finish his training before turning 20 — and he kept his word! Now we say proudly that our family has three wings: my wife is a teacher, I’m a chef, and our son is a pilot.”
During his aviation training, Capt. Vashon successfully flew aircraft such as the Cessna 152, Cessna 172, and Piper Seneca III (PA-34). His next milestone is to fly for a leading Indian airline, a goal he is steadfastly working toward.
With his achievement, Capt. Vashon Jovio Goes has not only made his parents and hometown proud but has also become a symbol of inspiration for Goa’s youth. His journey reminds us that no dream is too high to reach — especially for those who dare to chase it with courage, focus, and heart.
