BICHOLIM: The folk dance of Godemodni famous all over Goa as a cultural dance was performed on Wednesday at Bordem Bicholim.
In olden times brave soldiers used to get reward in form of special clothes, sword or horse cab. These soldiers would then celebrate this occasion clad in these royal clothes by taking a round in the village on horseback. The woman would also pray for their long life and success in future.
It reflects the rich tradition of warfare inherited by the Maratha community that migrated from the Ghat region with horses, swords and better techniques of warfare.
Four persons fastened inside hobby-horse below their waists, brandishing swords executed this warlike dance to the beat of dholak and tasha. The dance started from Bordem and ended at Shantadurga High School.
This dance is also performed in other parts, including Sattari taluka; Sarvan, Mulgao, Ladfe and Kharpal in Bicholim taluka; Hankhane, Ibrampur and Morjim in Pernem taluka; and Dharge in Dharbandora taluka.
In neighbouring Maharashtra it is observed in Sasoli, Virdi, Matne and Ambadgao.
