VASCO: Captain Viriato Fernandes, leader of Goencho Avaaz that just-graduated to be a political party, claimed that his party will give proper representation to the voice of the people of Goa in the assembly if they get elected. He insisted that Goencho Avaaz will play a strategically crucial role in defeating BJP in Assembly Election 2022.
Hitting out at the opposition, Fernandes said that opposition has miserably failed in pointing out the wrong things of the BJP govt. Therefore the Goencho Avaaz party will give educated, good versioned candidates.
Fernandes clarified that shifting Goencho Avaaz into political domain happened because the present govt did not listen and respected the opinions, demands of the people who were against the three linear projects which are anti-people and other State level issues such as Mhadei, coal pollution, unemployment, formalin issue, Regional Plan 2021 etc.
Fernandes manifested that Goencho Avaaz held awareness program in 74 villages across Goa against destructive projects and its impact on Goa, people. “In one place in Siolim after the meeting, youth from various places such as Assagao, Anjuna, Siolim and other places met Goencho Avaaz’s team members and suggested them to form a political party because the govt used its machinery, police force and political power to suppress the voices of the people. The appeal became stronger after police detained youth on Goa Liberation day 2020. They firmly demanded that Goencho Avaaz should come into politics after seeing the vision and support youth got from Goencho Avaaz” Fernandes said.
When asked from where they will get funds to run a political party, Fernandes admitted that money is the main problem. He claimed that for last three years Goencho Avaaz has been functioning on the money contributed by its team members. Captain also mentioned that they will accept the financial help from any well-wisher but before that they will scrutinise whether the person belongs or have link towards any political party or not.
Fernandes said that Goencho Avaaz will field young, educated and candidates with vision to save Goa and those in tune with the vision statement and principles of Goencho Avaaz during Assembly election 2022. He added that educated people have been approaching them since the announcement was made of turning to a political party.
