VASCO: Goa Customs arrested one domestic passenger for smuggling gold weighing 2170 grams having approximate value of Rs 95.03 lakhs at Dabolim Airport.

In a press release issued by the Goa Customs, based on specific Information, the Air Customs officers of Goa headed by YB Sahare, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, apprehended a domestic passenger from West Bengal, on Saturday, who had arrived from New Delhi by Vistara Flight No UK847 and recovered foreign origin gold weighing 2170 grams estimate at around Rs 95.03 lakh.
Furthermore, Goa customs officers said they have successfully busted a modus operandi whereby an International passenger brought the smuggled gold from Dubai to Delhi and purposely left the gold below his seat with the knowledge that same flight would be on domestic run from Delhi to Goa. At Delhi another passenger of his gang occupied the same seat and picked up the hidden gold. He, however, was apprehended along with smuggled gold by the alert Goa Customs officers on his arrival at Dabolim Airport, said the press release.
The said gold has been seized under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962.
The whole exercise of seizure was conducted under the constant support of MS Meena, Joint Commissioner of Customs and overall guidance of Mihir Ranjan, Commissioner of Customs, Goa.
Further investigation is under progress.
