PANJIM: Accusing the government of converting Goa into a “crime destination”, the Congress charged the BJP’s top brass with shielding and protecting the mafias in illicit drug trade, murders and beggars.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Media Cell convenor Trajano D’Mello claimed that BJP state president Sadanand Tanawade and its organisation secretary Satish Dhond rushed to Margao after the murder of jeweller Swapnil Walke, who was killed in a daylight robbery attempt, earlier last week.
“This raises questions on the intentions of ruling party’s interference in the investigation that forced Margao Police to act slowly or in fact not to act,” he said.
“Why the Government did not act till now against the Margao Police Inspector for his failure to handle the case? Why has the Government not acted even after four days of the murder to appoint a DySP in South Goa,” D’Mello questioned.
“We are reiterating our claim that the BJP top brass is protecting the drug mafia, beggar mafia and murder mafia in Goa and want to convert this beautiful state into crime destination,” the Congress leader charged.
