porvorim: Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Friday said that the Goa police have ensured the crime, law and order situation in the State has remained under control.
Addressing the Legislative Assembly, he said the crime detection rate in the State is 85.83 per cent while 159.17 kgs of drugs worth Rs 396.35 lakh have been seized under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act during the current financial year upto November 2023.
The Governor said a total of 5,19,443 traffic violation cases under Motor Vehicle Act have been booked and Rs 34.39 crore have been collected as penalities during the current financial year upto November 2023 by the Police and Transport Department.
He said to provide proper infrastructure to the police force, 70 per cent of work towards construction of new building for Quepem Police Station has been completed while the construction of new building for coastal security police station at Chapora is fully completed and is likely to be inaugurated soon.
He said during the current financial year upto October 2023, the Fire and Emergency Services collectively attended 5,527 calls during which 87 lives and 29 animal lives were saved.
The Governor said that the government has decided to simplify the processes for investors with single-window clearance for land allotment and construction of industries.
He said the commercial plots will be made available to industries through a simplified auction route which will enhance revenue and job opportunities.
He said during the current financial year, 10,857 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) filed online Udyam Registration with employment potential of 43,009 persons upto November 2023.
The Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (IPB) has granted approval to 12 new industrial units and 9 expansion proposal of existing manufacturing units during 2023-24 upto November 2023, the Governor said.
He said the total revenue expected from these activities is Rs 698.53 crore with proposed employment potential of 5,568 persons.
He said Goa is on the forefront for giving boost to IT Startups and till date Rs 3.51 crore has been disbursed to 123 Startup beneficiaries.
The Governor said the government has notified ‘Reimbursement of Green Tax and Fitness fee to the mining affected truck owners scheme 2023’ so as to provide financial assistance to the tipper truck owners who have been adversely affected due to the closure of all mining and related activities in the State.
The Governor said Goa has stood as a role model for drinking water supply and with augmentation of various water treatment plants and soon Goa will be the Smart Utility State and to sustain it, a number of initiatives have been taken up with an ultimate aim to provide water to all 24×7.
All the ongoing sewerage schemes, with an aim to achieve 100 per cent sewerage connectivity will be commissioned during this year, totalling to 42.5 MLD Sewerage Treatment Plants, he said.
Notification for implementation of MLA-LAD Scheme is in place and this year we will see sanction of over Rs 100 cr with an annual ceiling limit of Rs 2.5 cr per assembly constituency and to ensure all the works are completed in the same financial year, a committee is constituted to accord faster sanctions and its timely execution.
The Governor said for ensuring 24×7 uninterrupted power supply in the State, the government has devised 10 packages under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme to include various projects aimed at improving power supply, quality and reliability.
