Govt adamant, health of protesting anganwadi workers deteriorates

PANJIM: Health condition of protesting Anganwadi workers deteriorated as they entered second day of ‘no water consumption’ protest.

President of Goa Union of Anganwadi Workers (GUAW) Devyani Tamse on Friday informed that Vidya Naik who hails from Shiroda complained of chest pain and palpitation.

According to Tamse, the 108 ambulance service was called when Vidya spoke about severe pain in her stomach.

Standing strong on their decision Tamse said “With each passing day, there is possibility that everyone will fall sick. There is no energy left in any of the protestors to even speak a word but we will continue to protest until our demand is met.”

She further said that they are firm on their stand that they have never committed any mistake. “No matter what, we will not withdraw the protest until we are absorbed back into the service,” Tamse added.

She further informed that the doctors had suggested that Vidya be shifted to the health centre but Vidya preferred to fight for her right by continuing to be part of the protest and staying at the Azad Maidan rather than getting admitted in the hospital.

The seven anganwadi workers have been demanding revocation of their termination order by the State government and their chain hunger strike entered 44th day on Friday.
