Bowing to the demands of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the government today decided to hold the House Committee meeting on November 24, to discuss the grievances of the public before finalising the alignment for the national highway NH 17 and 4A passing through the State.
Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar had yesterday demanded that the government should convene a house committee meeting before finalizing the alignment.
Reliable sources said that the government will discuss the public girevances on the new alignment, which has already been submitted to the Centre.
The BJP has been supporting the agitation by the National Highway Diversion Committee, which has demanded scrapping of the alignment.
When contacted Chief Minister Digambar Kamat told Herald that the house committee will deliberate on the issue.
He also stated that the government has taken utmost care that the common man is not affected by the widening of the highways.
“We have also seen to it that the people are not affected by the toll, which would be charged by the widening,” Kamat told Herald.
