CALANGUTE, NOV 19 The meet of the Calangute block of Goa Mahila Pradesh Congress convened here on Friday had to be cut short due to power failure, which plunged half of Calangute in total darkness.

The meet of the Calangute block of Goa Mahila Pradesh Congress convened here on Friday had to be cut short due to power failure, which plunged half of Calangute in total darkness. 
A large number of women of Calangute constituency, comprising Parra, Nagoa-Arpora, Saligao, Candolim and Calangute, had to return home early due to power supply failure. 
The meeting was also attended by Nagoa-Arpora Sarpanch Agnelo D’Souza and Parra Sarpanch Benedict D’Souza, besides panchas of Calangute, Candolim, Nagoa-Arpora.
Addressing the women of Calangute, EDC Chairman and local MLA Agnelo Fernandes encouraged them to come forward and avail benefits and schemes offered by the government to be self-dependent.
“We had the intention of outlining the various schemes available under the EDC, but we have no option but to cut short the meeting due to power supply failure,” said Fernandes.
He, however, promised to have the schemes outlined to the women of Calangute constituency at a later date.
Earlier, Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress President Monica Dias welcomed the gathering and along with MLA Agnelo Fernandes, paid rich tributes to former prime minister on her birth anniversary.
Former Calangute panch Lourdes Lobo along with teacher and nurse Premlata Salkar were felicitated by Agnelo Fernandes, while 161 women were admitted into the party fold in the presence of Monica Dias, Dr Pramod Salgaonkar and Bibiana Fernandes, president of Calangute Mahila Block Congress.
