PANJIM: The Department of Women & Child Development has informed the authorities concerned to stop the sale of ‘Johnson and Johnson’ baby shampoo as directed by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
“NCPCR has received sample testing report only from Drug Control Organisation, Rajasthan, stating that the sample of Johnson baby shampoo was declared as not of standard quality as presence of formaldehyde was confirmed by Government Analyst Drug Testing Laboratory, Jaipur. Under Section 13(1) of CPCR Act, 2005, the NCPCR is of the view that directions may be issued to stop sale of Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo in the markets. Therefore, you are requested to take action deemed fit at your end and furnish details directly to the NCPCR with intimation to the Directorate,” the letter to Departments of Health Services, Goa Police, Labour, Food & Drug Administration and Legal Metrology states.
The NCPCR had last month directed the American multinational company to immediately withdraw a batch of its baby shampoo that it said allegedly contained harmful chemicals. The claim was refuted by the company which asserted that its products are safe.
The NCPCR in April had written to all the states and Union Territories asking them to test samples of shampoo and talcum powder.
