PANJIM: The Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) on Monday slammed BJP-led State government for failing to grant protection to the rape survivor, who has gone missing from the rehabilitation centre, since last month.
The minor girl, who was allegedly raped by Congress candidate Atanasio Monserrate, has gone missing since April 28. Verna police have filed a complaint against unknown persons on May 10.
Addressing media persons, GSM functionary Hridaynath Shirodkar said that being a rape survivor, it becomes government’s responsibility to ensure safety of the girl. “But, our government is busy in elections. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, who is also Home Minister, is busy with Panjim by-election and has no time to look into the State affairs,” he charged.
Shirodkar said that while CM is busy holding corner meetings to ensure victory of his candidate Sidharth Kuncolienker, the State is unsafe. “Women are not safe in the State. And this is one of the biggest example,” he said.
“The girl went missing on April 28 and the police registered complaint on May 10. This shows that government and police were completely in dark about the incident. She is an alleged victim in the rape case filed against Monserrate,” he said.
GSM leader has raised suspicion about possible setting between BJP and Monserrate over the development. “Looks like it’s a clear setting by BJP to save Monserrate and in return to retain the Panjim seat for BJP,” he charged.
