MARGAO: The Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) held a dharna at the Road Transport Office in Arlem to protest the extension of service given to employees who have reached the age of retirement. Criticizing the extensions, GGEA stated that it kills the rights to promotions for other senior employees.
Addressing the press, GGEA chief John Nazareth claimed that they had gathered the names of 95 employees who received an extension, after which GGEA had begun a movement against the same on August 15. He added, “I had a feeling that the chief minister would act on our demand and stop the extensions, but he has failed to do so.”
GGEA protested outside the office of Anil Dessai, the Assistant Registrar, working at Margao who received an extension by holding banners and shouting slogans.
Over 80 employees holding top posts in the government have received extensions after retirement. GGEA has objected and successfully sent home several such employees.
