PANJIM:  The State government on Friday extended the benefit of One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, offered to the defaulting water consumers, till February 28, following poor response to the scheme.

The scheme — Dues Recovery and Settlement Scheme 2020-21 (One Time Settlement Scheme) offers 100 per cent to 20 per cent waiver on delayed payment charges to the defaulting consumers, based on the kind of installment facility they opt for to clear the dues.

Addressing the media persons on Friday, Minister for PWD Deepak Pauskar said that the government has decided to grant further one month extension to the scheme, till February 28, after which defaulting consumers will face action in form of disconnection, with immediate effect.

The scheme is applicable for defaulting water consumers who have not paid dues, defaulting water consumers whose cases are referred to Revenue Recovery Court and Water Consumers whose installations are Temporarily/Permanently disconnected, all as on October 31, 2020.

He said that since the implementation of the scheme in December, only 71 consumers have opted for it and have started clearing their dues in installments.

“The consumers have option of two to five installments based on which the delayed payment charges would be waived off,” he said.
