Govt firm on no EDMs in peak season: CM

PANJIM: Unmoved by the threat of EDM festival organisers to move out if not granted permission, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday said the government will not change its stand.

“The government is of the view that the EDM festival should not be held in December end which is a peak tourist season.Government is also of the firm view that all three EDMs should also not overlap,” Parsekar said.
The government said it is seriously considering a ban on Supersonic and Sunburn this December due to complaints of the influx of tourists they bring. The pressure on public infrastructure and traffic congestion, they said, is not worth the revenue earned.
“We are seriously thinking not to allow mega events like EDM festivals between December 15 and January 15 every year as the State witnesses a rush of tourists during that time who arrive here to usher in the New Year,” Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar had said earlier.
