PANJIM Goa Government on Thursday extended the benefits under the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY) – the universal cashless health insurance scheme- for COVID-19 treatment, with immediate effect, in a bid to ease the pressure on the State run medical facilities.
In the notification issued, the government has capped COVID-19 treatment in general ward at Rs 8,000 per day while Rs 19,200 per day would be charged for ICU with ventilator occupancy across all those DDSSY empanelled hospitals having ICU facilities.

The package includes admission charges, intensivist, primary and specialist consultant charges, bed charges, nursing, resident doctor, diet, PPE kits for staff, X-ray, ECG, UCG, 2D Echo, Cardiac monitor, infusion pump, catheterization, CBC, FBSL, PPBSL, Liver function test, blood group, routine medicine including multivitamin, vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin D, Paracetamol, Antacid, Anti-allergic, Azithromycin, Coxycycline, Levofloxacin and Dexamethasone, dietary charges.
The package however does not include Diagnostic interventions, special drugs, use of special equipment, other special procedures or surgery, etc and extra oxygen flow other than ICU.
“The scheme for COVID treatment is applicable only to those DDSSY empanelled hospitals having only ICU facilities,” reads the notification issued by Additional Secretary Health Vikas Gaunekar.
The government has said that the claim under the scheme will be restricted for a maximum ten days from the date of admission.
On an average, State reports over 200 hospital admissions of COVID patients daily. The existing government facilities including Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) are running out of beds, with patient seen either sharing beds or lying on floor.
