MARGAO: With the Congress finally getting into agitation mode with the district committee, south, holding its first ever protest rally against the Parrikar regime, GPCC President Subhash Shirodkar on Wednesday said the party will hold a similar rally in North Goa later this month followed by a state-level morcha in the state capital in January.
Addressing the Congress workers outside the District Collectorate building, Shirodkar launched a scathing attack on the Parrikar government for various sins of omission and commission. He said the government has failed to maintain law and order in the state and ensure safety of the people. “The very fact that the crime index in the state for the last 18 months has risen beyond imagination proves the failure of the law-enforcing agencies under the government. Women are targeted in broad day light”, he said.
The Congress workers also demanded reduction in stamp duty and implementation of the Food Security Act for the benefit of the common man.
A delegation led by Shirodkar along with district president Subhash Faldessai, senior leaders Domnick Fernandes and Luis Alex Cardozo, general secretaries Altinho Gomes and Joe Dias and others later proceeded to the Collector to hand over a memorandum. The memorandum was accepted by Deputy Collector Sangeeta Naik in the absence of Collector N D Agrawal and two Additional Collectors. Sangeeta has promised to forward the memorandum to the government. Later briefing the media, district Congress President Subhash Faldessai and Congress general secretary Joe Dias demanded the resignation of Home Minister Manohar Parrikar for the government’s failure on the law and order front.
