PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Luizinho Faleiro accused the BJP-led government of running the State’s finances into the ground and at the same time encouraging casinos, gambling and prostitution.
Speaking after the completion of the Chintan Shivir, in the presence of the AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh and Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane, at the release of what he called the Dona Paula declaration, the veteran Congressman argued that the government had no industrial policy and because of that educated youth were languishing without any employment opportunities.
“The State is in a very precarious and sorry state. For the first time since liberation the financial state is so bad,” he said. “Law and order has collapsed,” he added.
The declaration speaks about the economic scenario, social scenario, organisational issues, local governance and interaction with the media.
According to the Congress, the main objective of the Chintan Shivir is the search for new, young and fresh political talent and is part of the process for preparing the roadmap so that Congress party can be built for the next State Assembly elections.
“No amount of reviews, reinterpretation, reinvention and reaffirmation can take us to the final goal of strengthening and consolidation of the Congress organization unless we inject fresh blood,” Faleiro said in his address.
Singh spoke about giving the youth a chance and accused the BJP of working with an agenda. “They want to polarize the body polity of the country,” he said, when asked to comment on the controversy of German versus Sanskrit. “Why this debate over German versus Sanskrit? If anyone wants to learn why has the government got to come in between,” he said.
On the conversion issue, he said that the Congress stood by the “fundamental right that any citizen can follow the religion of his choice.”
Referring to the recent debate on anti-conversion laws, he said he was against any form of conversion by inducement or by force.
