Govt okays 1,277 toilets

PANJIM: State Cabinet on Wednesday granted ex-post facto approval to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to construct 1,277 individual household toilets through Sulabh International Social Service Organisation. 
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant led-cabinet accorded its ex-post facto approval to ULBs to carry out demand based work of construction of toilets. 
Ponda Municipal Council has already constructed 21 individual household toilets utilising 14th Finance Commission grants. 
While the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has proposed to construct the toilets utilising the CSR funds, the Sanguem and Quepem municipalities would be utilising the 14th Finance Commission grants to construct community toilets, instead of household toilets. Sanguem municipality has already issued the tender and work order for community toilets. 
Meanwhile, Pernem Municipal Council has proposed construction of toilets using bricks without tiles-unit at a cost of Rs 32,704 per toilet, while Curchorem and Margao municipalities have quoted price of Rs 37,591 per unit using bricks with tiles. 
The municipalities of Sanquelim, Valpoi, Cuncolim, Mormugao, Canacona, Mapusa and Bicholim have proposed construction using laterite stones with tiles at a cost of Rs 45,160 per unit.
