Govt plans tie-up with company to treat cardiac emergencies

PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday said the department will tie up with ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI-India) to draw a protocol which will reduce the number of deaths due to cardiac arrests.

PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday said the department will tie up with ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI-India) to draw a protocol which will reduce the number of deaths due to cardiac arrests.
Addressing the media, Rane said, “We are on the verge of doing something which is new in India. We will be introducing the protocol drawn by STEMI India in our system to treat cardiac emergencies. This procedure has been recognized by Indian Council for Medical Research and even National Rural Health Mission wants to involve this in their program.”
“Goa Medical College (GMC) would be a centrally located facility which will be the point for cardiac emergencies. Whenever any patient suffers cardiac emergency he would be thrombolysed at nearby Primary Health Centre or Community Health Centre,” Rane said.
He added that the cardiac wing at GMC would be strengthened by appointing more consultants to run the unit 24×7 and a proposal has been sent to the Chief Minister.
“108 ambulances will sign memorandum of understanding with STEMI India to provide the support to implement protocol for cardiac emergencies of which the State government will also be a part. Further, motor ambulances, cancer related testing will be done in GMC. New fleet of ambulances will be added by this month-end. OPDs of GMC will be air-conditioned and six GMC wards will also be renovated,” he added.
