PONDA: The Curti-Ponda Electricity Department on Friday provided ex-gratia financial relief of Rs 7 lakh each to the next of kin of three employees, who died in tragic truck accident, at Borim Circle, recently.
Electrical Engineer Deepak Naik stated that Power Minister Nilesh Cabral visited the family members of the deceased and handed over the order of the government to provide Rs 7 lakh each to next of kin of the three employees, who died after the truck carrying the staff and poles overturned and poles fell on them, at Borim Circle.
He said, “The three injured who are taking treatment will also be provided financial help of Rs 20,000 each. As per the rules, the government will take care of them.”
Naik said, “The Chief Engineer of the department has directed henceforth not to carry the employees with poles and decided to use separate vehicle for them until the department will procure special vehicles so that employees could sit in cabin and only material or poles can be transported in truck carrier.”
Herald had highlighted, with photo caption “no lesson learnt”, how the very next day after the Borim tragic accident the employees were carrying poles in the truck carrier. With the news that the government is to procure separate vehicles, the employees have expressed happiness over it.
“The truck involved in the accident is damaged and in no position to repair,” Naik added.
