MARGAO: In a significant move, the State government has announced an increase in medical assistance for individuals suffering from prolonged illnesses and enhanced support for acquiring spectacles. According to the latest amendment to the Goa Scheme for Immediate Relief Rules, the state will now provide up to Rs one lakh per year through the Institute of Public Assistance (Provedoria) for individuals requiring prolonged medical aid.
Under these revised regulations, individuals eligible for medical aid, necessitating long-term treatment and continuous medication as prescribed by Authorized Medical Officers of a Government Hospital, will receive up to a maximum of Rs one lakh per person annually.
Additionally, the government has boosted assistance for purchasing spectacles from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000. As per the amended rules, individuals will be reimbursed either the actual cost of the spectacles or Rs 5,000, whichever is lower. Furthermore, the amendment authorizes the Provedoria director to approve assistance of up to Rs 50,000.
