MARGAO: With government speeding up the work along the Western Bypass, the chances of peoples’ demands are likely to fall flat as the road will soon connect Nuvem to Fatorda and Fatorda to Navelim. Fatorda Congress spokesperson Avinash Tavares says, “The work of bypass at Nuvem is going on at frantic pace and we demand that the road be done on stilts and land filling and dumping of mud be stopped.”
“In Agassaim and Merces, the road is passing through the fields and water bodies. Only in Fatorda, the work is going on at a full pace for his selfish interests,” Avinash alleged, indirectly referring to the Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai.
Mervin D’Souza, a local said, “Several tourists identify Goa for its greenery and serenity and we need to protect this wealth. I request the Councillors, MLAs and Panchas of these areas to take up the issue with the Government and not to sleep over it.”
Former minister Mama Cardozo said, “The need of the Western Bypass is long pending and I feel it has become a reality. But this road in these particular areas of Nuvem, Fatorda, Colva and Navelim needs a flyover to save the water bodies and the fields.” Meanwhile, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai however begged to differ, saying, “I had demanded for box culverts at some places and stilts in some areas. My demands may get fulfilled but the demands of Caitu for a flyover may eventually not be accepted.”
