PANJIM: Non-Conventional Sources of Energy Minister Nilesh Cabral on Monday said the government will establish 2000-kg/HR biomass briquette plant at Saligao and Rs 600 per tonne will be paid to those supplying biomass to the plant.

Cabral said, “The biomass briquette plant will be commissioned within next two to three months which once commissioned will save conventional energy by providing natural source of energy. Biomass briquettes are used as a fuel for briquette fired boilers in the pharmaceutical companies as furnace oil is banned. The briquettes are purchased from other States to meet the daily requirement.”

The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) had requested the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) for establishing biomass briquette manufacturing unit facility to treat the tree/green waste generated on daily basis.

The CCP which had expressed its difficulty to deal with approximately 7-10 TPD biomass tree/green waste being generated within its jurisdiction has however committed to supply 7-10 TDP biomass tree/green waste per day.

“Also the project proponent – M/s Punjab Renewable Energy Systems Private Limited (PRESPL), Mumbai has agreed to pay Rs 600 per tonne to the person supplying biomass at the site. Similarly, Rs 600 per tonne of biomass briquettes produced will be paid to the GEDA,” the Minister said.

The present requirement of biomass in Verna industrial estate is approximately 53 tonnes per day and the PRESPL requirement for its plant in Goa is 70 tonnes per day.
