PANJIM: As shipping vessels makes booster shot of vaccine mandatory for seafarers, the Goa NRI Commission has written to the State government to grant relaxation to the community, identified as key workers, in a bid to safeguard their employment and livelihood.
The waiting time of nine months after the second vaccine dose is worrying seafarers as shipping companies are demanding seafarers who are fully vaccinated with all three shots. This has lead to lot of uncertainty in them joining work.
The seafarers have petitioned NRI commission for intervention.
Sources informed that Director of NRI Commission Anthony D’Souza has written to Under Secretary Health, Government of Goa requesting to grant relaxation in the waiting time period for seafarers, who are unable to join their work for not being vaccinated with booster dose.
Sources said that seafarers are identified as key workers by Director General of Shipping.
