VASCO: Animal lover and wildlife rescuer Vijay Singh has urged the State government to start a 24×7 helpline to rescue injured animals.
On Saturday Singh rushed to rescue a grievously injured cow for medical treatment. While proceeding to his office on Saturday morning, he noticed a wounded cow along the road. When he went near to the bovine he found it was bleeding profusely and was lying unconscious and was informed that the animal was hit by a speeding heavy vehicle the previous night.
Singh immediately called up the fire brigade for assistance to rescue the animal but was informed that the fire personnel can only lift the animal as they don’t have a spare vehicle to shift the injured animal. He then called another NGO representative, who told him that their office will open at 9.30 am but they have no driver to drive the vehicle. He kept on trying to contact various departments in vain and finally hired a goods carrier rickshaw and arranged workers and with the help of fire personnel shifted the injured cow to the People For Animals (PFA) shelter at Mangor Hill, for treatment.
Realising the difficulties he faced to rescue the injured animal, Singh has appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to provide a 24×7 facility for the rescue of injured animals. “If such a facility is provided then many people will come forward to rescue animals found injured on the roadsides,” he said.
