PANJIM: In the wake of opposition to various ‘development projects’ and controversies surrounding them, the State government urged Goans to provide suggestions rather than raise objections to its endeavours.
The statements by Goa Governor Dr Mridula Sinha and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Revolution Day come at a time when the State is facing severe criticism for failing to fulfill its promises such as shifting offshore casinos out of River Mandovi, curbing corruption, providing employment to youth and on other issues.
“Government has made steady progress in all spheres, be it education, health and other sectors. Government is a continuous process and though the people have the right to give suggestions on important issues in a democratic set up, they also have to participate in the development process and support the State in its endeavour towards development,” Dr Sinha said addressing the gathering on Saturday.
She also urged to people to create a positive outlook and refrain from opposing ‘good things which the government is contemplating’.
Parsekar echoed this and added that citizens should cooperate to speed up development activities. “A positive approach is necessary for the development of the State. In the past 55 years, all successive governments have contributed to the progress of the State.
Though Goa attained freedom 14 years after Indian Independence, the State has caught up with progress and is almost at par with other states,” he said adding, “The government in not in a position to give government jobs to all and therefore Goan youth should avail benefits of self employment schemes.”
Sinha also said that freedom fighters should inspire the younger generation to fight against injustice. Parsekar mentioned that the contribution of the freedom fighters is immense and they should now supplement the government efforts to improve people’s living conditions.
