Govt will now allow locals to build own toilets under ODF scheme: CM

PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that the government will now allow the locals to build their own toilets under the Open Defecation Free (ODF) scheme as per the specifications and release the subsidy amount to them

The Chief Minister discussed with the officials of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Directorate of Panchayats, Solid Waste Management Corporation and Municipal Administration, the status of toilets being built up in the State today.

Dr Sawant said, “The government builds toilet for Goan household under subsidised rates. This facility was available for bio-toilets and toilets built under Sulabh Complex.”

“However, to improve the speed of the construction, the government will now allow the locals to build their own toilets under the scheme as per the specifications and release the subsidy amount to them,” he said.

Dr Sawant stated that this will involve more of Goan labourers, further providing them employment and boosting Swayampurna Goem.

“This decision shall be amended in the Cabinet next week,” the Chief Minister said.
