PANJIM: With elections in mind and to attract the youth, the BJP-led government on Sunday announced to make colleges WiFi enabled, provide one GB data and talk time of Rs 100 free for youth between 18-35 years of age from November.
Addressing BJP Youth convention, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that under the Digital Goa plan, from November onwards, the government intends to provide 3G and 4G data upto one GB and talk time of Rs 100 free for youth between 18-35 years of age.
“Also, colleges will be provided with WiFi facilities,” he said. More than 300 youths from across the State representing various colleges had participated in the convention.
The chief minister reminded everyone that his government had introduced a number of schemes since coming to power in 2012, citing the Griha Aadhar, Ladli Laxmi schemes and other initiatives like the doubling of the Dayanand Social Security (DSS) pension, reduction in petrol price, etc.
Parsekar, who holds education portfolio, appealed to youth not to be inclined towards only government jobs, but try to be job creators. “It is a sorry state of affairs that today’s youth depend only on government sector job, even though there is ample scope to become entrepreneurs and create jobs for others,” he said.
The chief minister said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Startup India Scheme and Standup India scheme, youth can come forward and avail the benefit.
“As per our records, on an average three young entrepreneurs register themselves with Economic Development Corporation (EDC) on daily basis. These are people who want to bring change…rather than becoming job seekers, they want to be job creators,” he commanded.
Parsekar was speaking in presence of Member of Parliament Narendra Sawaikar, BJP President Vinay Tendulkar, General Secretary Sadanand Shet Tanavade and youth leader Sanket Arsekar.
