MARGAO: Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar on Sunday informed that the government is working hard to make Goa an agro-based State and to get the youth into agriculture, the State would soon have its Agriculture University.
After unfurling the National tricolour to celebrate 71st Republic Day at South Goa Collectorate building, Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, Kavlekar said, “Republic Day is the day of the people, the day of secularism and the day of our Constitution. We have to felicitate the freedom fighters because of their sacrifices we are breathing the air of freedom.”
“Padma Bhushan award bestowed upon former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar for his contribution to the country is a great achievement and feeling of pride for us,” he said.
‘Goa Bazaar at Merces will be
permanent venue for SHGs’
MAPUSA: Stating that through the Rural Development Agency (RDA), the Central and state governments have implemented several schemes with an aim to reach the State’s hinterland and rural areas, RDA Minister Michael Lobo on Sunday said that government has decided to fast track the process of constructing Goa Bazaar at Merces, which will be a permanent venue for self help groups, which would ultimately lead to women’s empowerment.
He was addressing at the taluka level Republic Day celebration at Mapusa Administrative building after unfurling the National Flag followed by the national anthem and march.
Speaking further, Lobo said the Government is also improving the port connectivity to reduce the dependence on roadways. “We are striving to make Goa an inland water logistic hub to use the waterways as an option and to reduce the dependence on roadways”, he said.
“Goa is facing major issue with regards to garbage management and as minister; I am striving to give impetus to waste management with a vision to ensure a garbage-free State by 2022. This will also attract number of tourists,” Lobo added.
Students of various schools from Bardez participated in the several cultural programmes organised on the occasion.
Tourists warned of strict action if found involved in illegal acts
PERNEM: Deputy Chief Minister, Manohar Ajgaonkar on Sunday said tourists help improve the State economy however strict legal action will be taken if they are found involved in any illegal activity on road or at public places.
Speaking after unfurling the National tricolour at the 71st Republic Day celebration at Mamlatdar office, Pernem, he said, “With the help of Central Government, State Government is carrying out various infrastructure and beautification projects in the State at various tourist spots. Action will be taken against the tourists if found indulging in drug-related activities.”
He urged the youth to stay away from such illegal activities and requested parents to encourage their children in sports-related activities. He said the sports policy gives students grace marks for excelling in sports and simultaneously prepares them for top tournaments.
“We should remember all who those fought for our freedom and shaped our country to be a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic with the adoption of the Constitution,” he said and added that government is carrying out various developmental activities in the State at a rapid pace and as a result Goa is marching ahead in all fields.
He informed that projects such as Mopa Airport, AYUSH Hospital, Ravindra Bhavan etc, coming up in Pernem will help reduce unemployment problem in State to a large extent.
Citizens need not fear: Cabral on CAA, NRC, NPR
CURCHOREM: Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Sunday said that the citizens of this country need not fear with regards to Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as it is well-thought amendment brought by the government to help the people from few neighbouring nations, who want to citizens of India.
Addressing the gathering soon after unfurling the National Flag at the 71st Republic Day function at SAG complex, Borimoll-Quepem on Sunday, Cabral highlighted the various aspects of CAA, NRC and NPR and appealed to the people not to resort to any kind of violence.
He said the constitution protects the secular, democratic and social fabric of the nation and it was drafted taking the views of the concerned people and well experience leaders. He urged the people to support the government to undertake the developmental activities to take Goa to new heights.
