Govt’s abetment to criminal acts is clear, says VGG

MARGAO: The Village Groups of Goa (VGG) has reacted sharply to the “terror in Tiracol” unleashed by the proponents of the golf course and resort project at Tiracol last week, when over 50 menacing bouncers entered the village, along with heavy machinery and mowed down trees and forcibly constructed a road, as the villagers quaked in fear.

The VGG have alleged that the government of Goa has not acted on the criminal incidents carried out by “corporate goons” and said that the government’s total abetment to these criminal acts is clear.
The VGG has also warned the government to put back the Regional Plan in public domain and get it corrected as there is lot of dissent at the village level with the execution of the Regional Plan. The VGG also plans to agitate and come on streets if the government doesn’t meet their demands.
Condemning the events of forcible eviction that have unfolded in the recent days at Tiracol, the VGG has strongly condemned the silence of the Goa Government. “The fact that the Town and Country Planning Department claims that there is willingness for passing of the Regional Plan from 166 villages is a blatant lie as RTI replies reveal that only 15 villages have shown positive interest in the present Draft Regional Plan,” says Zarina Da Cunha, the President of VGG.
The VGG has begun mobilising NGOs and Goans and plans an agitation soon.
