GPCC lodges complaint against 12 defectors

PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Wednesday lodged a police complaint against the 12 MLAs, who defected their party to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). 

“The complaint is filed against the below mentioned persons who have conspired together and fraudulently created a false document claiming it to be resolution of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, which resolution purportedly was passed in the meeting of GPCC held on July 10, 2019 at Panjim, Goa. They have conspired together and created a false document claiming it to be resolution of GPCC… In the said document it is inter alia claimed that meeting of GPCC was held on July 10, 2019, wherein a resolution was passed to merge party in Goa Legislative Assembly into BJP. The aforesaid document is created illegally using counterfeit letterhead and counterfeit seal of the GPCC,” party President Girish Chodankar said in a complaint lodged at Panjim police station. 

Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, Ministers Filipe Rodrigues, Jennifer Monserrate, MLAs Isidore Fernandes, Nilkanth Halarnkar, Atanasio Monserrate, Antonio Fernandes, Francisco Silveira, Wilfred D’sa and Clafasio Dias; and Prasad Prakash Amonkar, Jeetendra Gaonkar and persons who have signed the alleged fraudulent document have been named as accused in the complaint.

The party has demanded criminal charges against them as the complaint comes a day after Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar dismissed petitions seeking disqualifications of 10 ex-MLAs of Congress and two ex-MLAs of MGP.
